A glimpse into Connie & Jason's lives:
Our Story:
Does this sound familiar to you: 1 in 5 relationships starts on ( ). Yes, we met through Match.com. Jason remembers vividly that he had sent me at least 2 emails before I responded back with an one-liner. I remember that retrospectively...
We quickly bonded over our share of love in Taiwanese dramas from the early 2000s, taste for food, throwback music, cooking for others, and so much more. As days went by, our love grew deeper and the bond became inseparable. On November 16th, 2013, Jason planned a surprise proposal for me in Chicago, and the rest is history.
We love each other, learn from each other, care for each other, and cherish each other every living moment...
About Connie:
The thrill is in the chase right? Ironically, Connie gave me the worst headaches ever (during the initial chase that is). Where do I even begin? First, she ignored my first email attempt at getting her attention on Match.com. When she did actually respond to my second email, she then proceeded to ignore the email that I sent through Gmail. I finally got a hold of her via gchat and somehow coaxed a phone number out of her. The first time I called her, she ignored my phone call because she thought I was a telemarketer (what kind of telemarketers call at 9:30pm anyways?). The second time I called her at work, she finally picked up, but when I told her my name is Jason, she just hung up on me (I'm guessing she had a creepy stalker at the time who's also called Jason). After I explained via Gchat that the 949-number wasn't some creepy stalker nor a telemarketer, I finally got Connie on the phone. Literally within 3 mins of our first phone conversation, she said "Hey sorry, but I have to go finish watching an episode of Walking Dead." Clearly, she wasn't that interested.
Somehow, I convinced Connie to meet me for a coffee date. She chose a convenient coffee shop (Farley's) which is located a block away from her apartment at the time in Portrero Hill. Of course, I arrived early. And of course, Connie arrived late. Apparently, she was at Costco with her roommates buying some sausages for their upcoming Tahoe trip (or something along those lines). So she showed up 30 minutes late. Much to my surprise, she actually looked like her profile pic! We ended up having a heart-to-heart conversation about what we were looking for in a potential partner. The date lasted well over an hour. I thought the date went pretty well, and I even ended up walking Connie back to her place (and creepily recorded the GPS location of her apartment afterwards).
So I thought it was done deal. NOPE. So I waited 5 hours after our date before sending Connie a text, to which she replied the next day. I waited 30 minutes before texting back. And she texted me back 6 hours later. Who responds that slowly to texts anyways?? Someone's who's not that interested. Duh. I guess she's just not that into me.
I somehow arranged an actual dinner date with Connie on a Thursday night. Prior to the date, Connie told me she was going on a Tahoe cabin trip that very weekend. So I thought I'd prepare a special package for her. The package included a card which described the individual components within the package: (1) a special colored rose because "red roses are for the ordinary." (2) gourmet chocolate truffles "because you like sweets." (3) a 24-hr hand warmer, "something to keep you warm in the snow this weekend". And yes, I expertly pulled out this package from behind my back right before we parted for the night. I pulled every trick I had. I gave it my all. It was my last attempt. It had to work.
At this point, I knew all I had to do and can do was wait. If Connie doesn't initiate any contact at this point, I failed. When I was driving across the Bay Bridge on the way back to my place in Emeryville, I received a text "Aww, that's so sweet.. Thank you so much :)" I breathed a sigh of relief. Happy face is a good sign. By the time I got home, I received a second text, "You want to go on another date next week?" BAMM. Tiger Woods fist pump. And the rest is history. In retrospect, I have to admit it was all worth the effort.
This past year has been a blast. I can go on and on about Connie's good traits, but you'll have to meet her to truly appreciate her kindness and warmth. I love how we can finish each other's sentences. I love how she treats my family. I love the way she looks at me every night before we fall asleep. I love her for who she is. I love everything about her. I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with her.
About Jason:
Jason is an incredibly smart, thoughtful, sensible, at times quiet, at times goofy kind of guy. He's the most amazing man I've ever known and lucky enough to be tying the knot with.
Jason loves his job as a Patent Agent, although he does complain about his title sounding like an entry level paper pusher from time to time. He will literally work from 9:30 to 8:00 o'clock everyday, then work some more at night. If it weren't for me being around, he'd be even working weekends (but his sensible side tells him to spend more quality time with me). Jason loves basketball and photography. His dedication to both hobbies are comparable to his work ethics. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I have been selected as his main model for all his photo-shoot projects. Despite his stereotypical goody-goody qualities, Jason is very fashion forward. He has countless (okay, a little exaggerating) pairs of really nice Italian leather shoes. I tease him about it all the time. I truly admire and love Jason and he inspires me to be a better version of myself.
Jason was born in LA, grew up in Taipei, moved back to Irvine for high school, and later graduated with a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley. Since graduating, he has been a Patent Agent working with companies like Apple, Altera, and Micron. Jason plans to go to Law School one day and become a Patent Attorney down the road...
